The "four-person wall" becomes your problem
at the fifth person.
In Taito City, 65 properties could be booked as one room for six adults. For two adults there were 226. The fifth person removes 30% of your choices and drops you below 40% of the two-person count. Once you know where they fall away, the options for six to eight are still there.

The heart of itThe "four-person wall" starts to bite at the fifth person - 226 becomes 85
Here is the conclusion first. You can get five or more into one room in Asakusa and Ueno. But not unless you move your search away from "inside hotels."
Two parents and four children, or six to eight including grandparents. First time in Japan, and a few nights in Tokyo are a given. You set the party size to six on a booking site, watch most of the results disappear, and start resigning yourself to two rooms. Before you do, look at where the numbers actually fall away.
These are measured counts from Rakuten Travel of how many properties could be booked for that party size under the same conditions (one night, one room, N adults), as of September 2026.
| Check-in | 2 adults | 4 | 5 | 6 | 8 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Autumn Saturday | 226 | 123 | 85 | 65 | 20 |
| Winter Sunday | 240 | 130 | 92 | 73 | 19 |
These two dates are more than two months apart, one a Saturday and one a Sunday. The counts barely move (65 and 73 at six, a gap of eight). Shifting the season or the day of the week does not produce more rooms for large families. Moving where you search, as in the next section, works better than moving when.
The fall comes in two steps. About 45% goes between two and four, and a further 30% between four and five. What survives to six is 29% / 30% in Taito City, and 25% / 27% across the whole 3 km radius around Asakusa and Ueno. Change the dates and it stays around 30%.
For reference, the same method gives a six-person survival rate of 31% / 28% in Hiroshima City. "About 30% at six in a big city" holds roughly everywhere - Asakusa and Ueno are not unusually hard.
At eight, Taito City drops to 20 properties - about 30% of the six-person figure. From here on you are no longer looking for "a hotel room" but choosing a different shape of room. The same structure shows up in Hokkaido: one room for a large family in Niseko and Rusutsu is the same story of looking outside hotels.
Change where you searchAsakusa and Ueno have three kinds of answer
Conclusion: a hotel's multi-person room, an apartment with a kitchen, or a whole floor to yourselves. Search by fitting your party into one of those three and the options for six to eight survive.
1. A hotel's multi-person room Official
Centurion Hotel & Spa Ueno Station's Family Twin, 1-8 guests, from about 38 sq.m. (two 140 cm double beds plus two 90 cm bunks). There is a front desk, there is breakfast, and you book it like any hotel.
2. An apartment with a kitchen Official
Minn Asakusa's Deluxe Room, 5 Beds with Sofa, sleeps 8 in 58 sq.m. Every room has a kitchen, a washing machine and a bathroom with a tub.
3. A whole floor or a whole house
Wonderful Stay TOKYO Asakusa has plans whose plan name says "one floor to yourselves / up to 8" (74,104 yen for eight in one room on the winter Sunday). Which floor is yours changes by date, and the room type itself is simply "Standard Room."
A little more on the counting. In Taito City, 90 properties came up at least once for six, and 30 for eight. Narrow that to properties available on 12 or more of the 14 dates we searched and it falls to 41 for six and 10 for eight. Eight is about a quarter of six. That is the hardest line in practice.
Properties in Taito City where one room for eight adults was available on 12 or more of 14 dates.
The same test at six gives 41.
Two minutes from Ueno Station - a hotel that states "1-8 guests" officially
Conclusion: Centurion Hotel & Spa Ueno Station is one of the few hotels whose official room page states a capacity of "1-8 guests".
Centurion Hotel & Spa Ueno Station Official and booking page
Two minutes' walk from the Hirokoji exit of JR Ueno Station (official). Rakuten says "about 2 minutes from JR and subway Ueno Station, about 4 minutes from Keisei-Ueno."
Rakuten Travel
- [Main building] Family Twin, 1-8 guests, from about 38 sq.m.; Premium Family, 1-8 guests, from about 38 sq.m.; Superior Family, 1-6 guests, from about 27 sq.m.; Deluxe Family with open-air bath, 1-6 guests, from about 34 sq.m.
- Six adults 91,200 yen = 15,200 yen each (one night, one room, room only, winter Sunday check-in, cheapest plan that day, September 2026)
- Eight adults 127,200 yen = 15,900 yen each (same basis, Family Twin). The per-person price rises slightly as the party grows
- Availability came up on 13 of 14 dates for six adults
- Reviews: 3.83 from 492. The only candidate here with a three-figure sample
- To be honest, availability at eight was 10 of 14 dates. We can recommend it without reservation for six, but if you are going as eight, search with flexible dates
- One more honest note. Rakuten's plan list shows "Premium Family 43 sq.m.", but the official site says "from about 38 sq.m." We use the official figure here
Minn Asakusa
Official: "about 5 minutes' walk from exit 7 of Tokyo Metro Ginza Line Asakusa Station." Rakuten adds "about 2 minutes from the north exit of Tobu Skytree Line Asakusa Station."
Rakuten Travel
- Officially 58 sq.m. in every room. Deluxe Room (6 Beds) sleeps 6 / (5 Beds with Sofa) sleeps 8 / (4 Beds) sleeps 6 / (5 Beds) sleeps 8 / Executive Room (5 Beds) sleeps 5
- Six adults 85,500 yen (60-day advance rate) = 14,250 yen each; eight adults 114,000 yen = 14,250 yen each (same basis, September 2026). The per-person price is identical
- Kitchen, washing machine and a bathroom with a tub throughout. Note that the official facilities list says some rooms have a washing machine without a dryer function
- Check-in from 15:00, check-out by 10:00
- To be honest, the review score is 4.33 but from only 27 reviews. With a sample that small, judge it on the room spec - 58 sq.m., sleeps 8, kitchen - rather than the score
Two minutes from Asakusa Station - 58 sq.m. with a kitchen and a washing machine
Conclusion: Minn Asakusa is a property where going from six to eight does not change the per-person price. Availability came up on all 14 dates at both six and eight adults. Adding people does not cost you dates.
For six or more staying three nights or more, whether there is a washing machine changes the design of the whole stay. You pack fewer changes of clothes, you bring fewer suitcases, and moving gets lighter. If you will be travelling with a stroller or large suitcases, read how far you can push a stroller on Japanese public transport as well.
Rooms that take six to eight in one - check availability now

Compare accommodation across Asakusa and Ueno
For anyone who wants to look beyond these two before deciding. Centred on Asakusa Station and stretching to Ueno, you can compare properties across the map. 65 properties in Taito City take six adults in one room, so the map shows you at a glance where those choices actually are.
Minn Asakusa is also listed on Agoda. The same property can differ in price and availability between sites, so enter your party size and look at both before deciding. For Centurion Ueno Station the six-in-one-room price on Agoda did not display consistently, so we list Rakuten Travel only for that one.
Which one?Ueno or Asakusa - decide on the morning walk, not the 5,700 yen
Conclusion: on the same night, in the same one room for six, 91,200 yen against 85,500 yen. A gap of 5,700 yen. Money will not settle it, so settle it on your route.

- If you are coming from Narita on the Access Express to Asakusa, Minn Asakusa is two minutes from the north exit of Tobu Asakusa Station (Keisei's official fare table names Asakusa explicitly, as a through fare onto the Toei Asakusa Line; note that some services terminate at Oshiage, so check the destination display)
- If you are coming in on the Skyliner to Keisei-Ueno, the Centurion is two minutes from Ueno Station
- In other words, the moment you choose your train from the airport, half the accommodation decision is made. Conversely, if you book the accommodation first, match the airport route to it
- Per person it is 15,200 against 14,250 yen. At eight it becomes 15,900 against 14,250, so the apartment gains as the party grows
Routes and real costs from the airport are covered separately. See from Haneda and Narita to Asakusa and Ueno.
Honest caveats: four things to check yourself before you press book
These are things we have not been able to verify, so we do not assert them.
Whether a child sharing a bed counts towards capacity depends on the plan
Every count above was measured as "N adults". If a plan lets small children be treated as children, the conditions may be looser than what we have written. If the plan counts everyone as an adult, they are exactly as written. Declare the wrong numbers and you may not get in on the day.
Prices move by the day
While researching Kawaguchiko, the price for the same room on the same dates moved from 137,700 to 141,950 yen in five days. The figures above are measurements "as of September 2026", not the amount you will be quoted.
We could not confirm what the connecting rooms actually are
We know nothing beyond what is written in the room name at Cross Suites Tokyo Asakusa. If you are counting on rooms joined by an internal door, ask the property directly before booking.
Whether you can reach the room with a stroller was outside this survey
Taito City has many whole-house and machiya-style properties in older buildings, and whether there is a lift inside and whether there are steps to the room we could not confirm. If you will be moving with a stroller, check the facilities list or ask directly first. Whether you carry six people's suitcases up and down stairs every day affects how tired you get far more than the price does. On travel itself, see how far you can push a stroller on Japanese public transport.
Accommodation for large families in Asakusa and Ueno: frequently asked questions
Can a family of five or more really share one room in central Tokyo?
Yes. Across the two dates we searched, 65 and 73 properties in Taito City could be booked as one room for six adults (one night, one room, Rakuten Travel, September 2026). But you will not find them by searching inside business hotels alone. Search by name for hotels that state a multi-person room, for apartment-style properties, or for whole-floor rentals.
Hotel or apartment - which should we choose?
Deciding by the number of nights is the clearest test. One or two nights with travel as the main purpose: a hotel with a front desk and breakfast (Centurion Hotel & Spa Ueno Station). Three nights or more with laundry and cooking: a place with a kitchen (Minn Asakusa). If your party goes up to eight, the apartment wins because the per-person price does not rise.
How does this differ from staying near Disney (Maihama and Shin-Urayasu)?
The purpose differs. The Maihama side suits park-first itineraries and sits some way from central Tokyo's sights. Asakusa and Ueno suit families who want both central sightseeing and the airport run to be short. Six-person rooms on the Maihama side are collected in hotels near Tokyo Disney that sleep six in one room.
If we stay in Asakusa or Ueno, what can we see that day?
Asakusa and Ueno are a few minutes apart by train, and Kaminarimon, the Tokyo Skytree and Ueno Zoo all sit within walking distance plus one or two train stops. The total for six and an order that your children's energy can survive are built out in a one-day model for a large family in Asakusa and Ueno.
The fifth person removes 30%. Here is what is left
65 properties in Taito City took six adults in one room. Search by name for the three kinds of answer and six to eight of you will fit in one room.
Prices change with the dates, so check the booking page for the latest. Always declare everyone's age when you book.
